MYTHOLOGY MEME: Apollo, Greek Mythology.
Apollo is one of the most important and complex of the Olympian deities in ancient Greek and Roman religion and Greek and Roman mythology. The ideal of the kouros (a beardless, athletic youth), Apollo has been variously recognized as a god of light, truth and prophecy, healing, plague, music, poetry, and more. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto, and has a twin sister, the chaste huntress Artemis.
His attributes are the tripod, lyre, bow and arrows, laurel, hawk, raven or crow, swan, fawn, roe, snake, mouse, grasshopper, and griffin. Although often associated with the sun, Apollo was not originally a sun god. He is also a warrior in the Trojan War. Elsewhere Apollo is also a god of healing and the arts - especially music (Apollo taught Orpheus to play the lyre) - archery, agriculture. His arrows could send plague, as happens in the Iliad Book I.
